Trend Spring/Summer 2017: THINK PINK

Good news for all the fashionista’s who love pink. We saw this colour many times on the runway last fashion weeks. For example Gucci, Miu Miu and Valentino. But also in the streets we saw that pink was a big trend. From beautiful pastel shades and old pink to hot pink; the streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan colours again massively pink. The new collections that slowly arrive in the stores, are full of pink again. Bright pink knitted sweaters and old pink hoodies, but also pink pants and pink coats. I love it! Pink was once considered kitsch and garish, yet these suitably un-chic qualities have proved favourable in Spring / Summer 2017. Working as a clear break from the minimalist palette once coveted by norm core fans, and providing a playful and modern alternative to more muted 70s references, pink is the colour this fashion season. Even simpler silhouettes can have that super cool vibe when they come in hot pink, a hue with a storied fashion history. Men and women continued to wear pink well into the ’20s, though pink had come to be seen as a flashy and flamboyant colour on men. There’s a scene in The Great Gatsby where Tom dismisses Gatsby by saying, “An Oxford man! Like hell he is. He wears a pink suit.” Elsa Schiaparelli, the petite Paris-based Italian designer, was as famous for her surreal styles (a lobster dress and shoe hat) as she was for becoming “the originator of the pink rage” in ’30s fashion. “Shocking pink” is what Schiaparelli dubbed her favourite hue, which has been described as “violent” and “screaming.” It’s also irresistible for those wanting to stand apart from the crowd. We’re not talking Sixteen Candles pastel prettiness, but sophisticated, bold color statements. But also a bit later in the fall of 1984, searing hot colours like pink, chartreuse and citron yellow began to appear in dresses, suits and coats. Nowadays pink proved to be a unifying trend throughout fashion weeks. From Copenhagen and Kiev through Sao Paulo and New York. At NYFW SS17, Marc Jacobs showed us a lot of pastel pink hues into his post-punk dystopia. The models were wearing rose ruffles, fuchsia velvet coats and satin shorts. Even the hair of the models was pink with dreadlocks. Also at Topshop Unique pink performed an 80s-style power dressing, with soft shoulder dusters paired with super short dresses. Over Copenhagen, it was Ganni statement rompers with matching frilled bags in creamy pinks. You can match pink with colours like purple (Balenciaga) en red. Even all kind of prints is a perfect combo, just like Miu Miu.
