Dubai Fashion TV attends the Festival de Cannes

It’s that time of year again. All the stars and celebrities worldwide will reunite in a single place: Cannes. The International Film Festival has been the meeting point for stars since 1946. This year the jewel city will be hosting it for the 70th time. It will be taking place from the 17th to the 28th of May. For this occasion, Dubai FashionTV will be there to give you the opportunity to see your favorite celebs in their most stunning outfits whilst walking down the red carpet. They will be broadcasting the entire event as well as the famous Gala which will take place of the 19th of May.

As this year the festival will be celebrating their 70th anniversary, it will be based on the history of the event.

Since the very beginning, the festival has been composed of many different magnificent buildings. First, we had a cinema hall at the Municipal Casino, which was the festival’s very first projection room in 1939. They transformed the Casino into a movie theatre with 1000 chairs. However, they only had the chance to play one movie which was “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” by William Dieterle, as the war started a few days later. The festival was postponed until 1946.

They decided to add a venue which was the Palais Croisette, which was built in 1947. Towards the end of the 1950s, the festival had become so popular that the number of visitors had increased beyond holding capacity. The organizers decided to build a new building to accommodate the crowds –  they called it The Palais des Festivals et des Congres.

Nowadays, the festival is hosted in many different buildings all over the city. However, the Palais des Festival continues to be the most well-known and is its 24 red steps are legendary.
