ARTIANA, UAE’s first homegrown auction house for art and luxury collectables, is pleased to present 60 artworks of leading contemporary artists from South Asia in its online auction to be held from 21 to 25 October. The auction features many new-to-market works by modernist masters in various media such as oils, acrylics, and paper works, and features a broad and inclusive selection.
Leading the auction is Maqbool Fida Husain (1915-2011) known as “Picasso of India”, and regarded as one of the most important South Asian artists in the 20th century, who took Indian art to the global stage.
The collection also includes a rare work by F. N. Souza (1924 – 2002) titled “Landscape with Tree”, 1958, and is the cover lot of this auction. The contrast between the natural environment and civilisation is vividly depicted in Souza’s landscapes. In the “Landscape with Tree”, picturesque structures and bold trees lay comfortably alongside the dance of a violent sky, creating a type of reflection of man’s actions in relation to those of nature and the cosmos at large.
The catalogue also includes works from prominent artist Sakti Burman, along with Ram Kumar’s semi-abstracted landscapes, and Krishen Khanna’s ‘Bandwallah’ series. A suite of Jamil Nash’s works comprising of his signature subjects is also part of the sale catalogue.
The auction will be held online at www.artiana.com from October 21 (9:00 am) through October 25th (6:00 pm) UAE 7me with a No Buyer’s Premium policy in an essentially ‘What You Bid Is What You Pay’ format. FlexiPay which allows buyers to ‘Bid Now Pay Later’ will also be available for eligible clients. (FlexiPay scheme details are available on the website.) The catalogue can be viewed online, and physical viewings can be arranged by prior appointment. Collectors may place bids at ARTIANA’s website, or through the mobile app available on both Google Play for Android and the App Store for Apple devices.
