THE FASHION WORLD IS IN MOURNING! MADAME CARVEN DIES AT AGE 105

Born on August 31, 1909 in Chatellerault in Paris, Carmen de Tommaso better known as Marie-Louise Grog-Carven, passed away on Monday (June 8th) at the age of 105.

Madame Carven

The French stylist founded her fashion label in 1945 in order to dress women of small stature like her. Madame Carven was one of the few women designer in Paris after Elsa Schiaparelli and Gabrielle Chanel.

She studied architecture at the “École des Beaux-Arts” in Paris and has always prioritized simple construction and clean lines, such as green and white stripes that resulted in the signing of her Maison. Carven was highlighted when inserting comfort and freedom in haute couture in her creations, capturing the carefree and relaxed mood of the post-World War II conquering numerous celebrities of the time as Edith Piaf and Michèle Morgan.

No doubt the fashion world is in mourning over the loss of this great stylist who left a legacy, and certainly her history will be immortalized for many generations of fashion professionals yet to come!
