Alternative Couture: Antonio Ortega

Some designers play it safe at Haute Couture Week by favouring muted colour palettes and letting the details speak for themselves. Mexican designer Antonio Ortega, however, made a statement with his colourful catwalk show in Paris. A mystery drawn from various cultures around the world, his collection MUMMIFIC gives a viewer an different angle on the usual shows. Clothes glide over the body, sensual and fragile. Dark tones are often enhanced with touches of light, the curves of the waist and hips are draped with bands of color, graphic shapes and contrasting shades.

Boldness is omnipresent in a collection where conventional forms are reinvented with mixtures of materials, or seemingly casual fringes. The volumes of fabric embrace the bust, emphasise shoulders and highlight the sensuality of the neckline. One thing is for sure, Ortega woman stands out among all others.
